VMware Partner Exchange – It was “Suite”

by on March 5, 2013

VMware Partner Exchange (PEX) is a chance for VMware to deliver the new vision and associated message to Partners. This year it was clear…they are focused on two areas:

  • VMware vCloud Suite
  • VMware Horizon Suite

So, what are these? The vCloud Suite is basically vSphere and the following addons:

  • vCloud Director
  • vCloud Connector
  • vCloud Networking and Security
  • vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
  • vCenter Operations Management Suite
  • vFabric Application Director
  • vCloud Automation Center

The suite enables our customers to go from calling themselves a private cloud to having the proper tools to make it a reality. The suite enables the new Software-Defined DataCenter, or SDDC; allowing for each layer of the datacenter to be turned into a software-defined service. It is broken up into two groupings; Cloud Infrastructure and Cloud Management. The picture below illustrates how the above components fit into the each of these groupings.

VMware Horizon Suite is a combination of rebranded and new components focused on end user computing. These components address virtual desktops, physical desktops, and mobile devices. The components are:

  • VMware Horizon View (formally VMware View)
  • VMware Horizon Mirage
  • VMware Horizon Workspace

VMware is showing great vision and leadership by embracing the reality that physical desktop management is not going away. As a virtualization company with almost every reason to shy away from physical anything, the Wanova acquisition and its integration into the Horizon Suite will ensure VMware can be a complete solution in the desktop space.

Gotham is aligned with the vision of both suites and sees the stern direction of Cloud and End User Computing by VMware to be a smart and strategic solution for our clients.
