Tech Round-up for 7/17/13

Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

Brad Smith, general counsel at Microsoft, sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder asking to allow Microsoft and others to reveal details on how it handles government requests for user data.

VMware announced the sale of Zimbra assets and IP to Telligent, manufacturers of enterprise collaboration and customer engagement software. VMware acquired Zimbra, makers of productivity and collaboration software for clouds, from Yahoo in February 2010.

Network World named the Check Point 640 appliance as the number one Unified Threat Management product for small businesses. The 640 outperformed seven other products in features and price.

A survey from AppSense and CTOVision of executives, technologists, and contractors in the defense, intelligence, and civilian sectors, found that more than eight out of ten respondents are moving to a multi-platform – physical, virtual, and mobile – computing environment.

Microsoft Outlook Web App clients are now available for the iPad and iPhone. The apps require a qualifying Office 365 subscription with Exchange Online, and Apple iOS 6 or higher running on an iPhone 4 or iPad 2, at minimum.
