Tech Round-up for 7/31/13

Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

RSA President Tom Heiser will now be working for parent company EMC, focusing on adapting EMC’s products to the cloud. Heiser joined RSA from EMC in 2008 as a senior vice president, before becoming COO and then president in 2010 and 2011.

McAfee’s updated Mobile Security software now offers new features, such as multi-user profiles with customized access, app privacy reporting, and call and SMS filtering. The suite is now available in basic and premium versions.

Microsoft rolled out a release candidate update for Visual Studio 2012 yesterday. The update contains bug fixes and improvements for Team Foundation Server. A final release date has not been announced, but the new Visual Studio 2013 is expected by the end of this year.

Ars Technica looks at the new Pwn Plug R2, which is being shown off at the Black Hat security conference today. The box provides security professionals a way to conduct penetration tests on their corporate networks, including wireless, cellular, Bluetooth, and RFID. 

Hackers can trick Windows 7 and 8 machines into thinking a plugged-in USB flash drive is a keyboard, bypassing AutoRun protection on the machine and running malicious scripts off the drive.
