Tech Round-up for 8/12/13

by on August 12, 2013

Here are some of the technology stories that caught our eye today:

At a press conference last Friday, President Barack Obama promised a review of the government’s surveillance programs, to address criticism about the government’s surveillance programs under the Patriot Act.

Lavabit and Silent Circle, two providers of secure email services, shut down those services last week due to growing concerns about the NSA’s surveillance programs. Lavabit founder Ladar Levison said he is fighting the government in court.

Proofpoint is acquiring Armorize Technologies, a company that makes software security scanning and antimalware programs, for $25 million. Proofpoint makes enterprise security and email archiving products, and has been using Armorize technology in the Targeted Attack Protection product.
